Create Discounts On QuickBooks Online
For QuickBooks Online, only header level discounts can be applied, thus making the process simpler.
Step 1: Click on the Gear icon in the top right
Step 2: Select Account and Settings under the Your Company column.
Step 3: Go to Sales from the menu options on the left
Step 4: Click on the Sales Form Content section
Step 5: Make sure the button for Discount is enabled, then hit the green Save button at the bottom.
Step 6: Go back to your inSitu Sales portal and click on the Gear icon at the top of the page next to your company name.
Step 7: Select the Other Settings tab from the Company Profile window. that will appear
Step 8: Select the desired field for your sales activity (estimates, orders, or invoices) and then make sure to disable Discounts By Line Item (because QuickBooks Online only supports headers), and enable Global Discounts. Hit Save when finished.
Create Discounts On QuickBooks Desktop
Note that for QuickBooks Desktop, both header and line level discounts can be applied, and the Subtotal (if using header) and Discount items must exist to be valid.
Create items for both Discount and Subtotal.
Discounts For Line Level: If creating a Discount at the line level (added individually for specific products), simply add the Discount item below every product you'd like the discount to apply for. In this example we set it to give 10% off for this specific product.
